Police Barracks

Positioned on the Boulia to Selwyn road, approximately 25km's and to the right hand side, half a mile off the road. The old police barracks make the perfect place for a picnic, fishing or enjoying the majesty of an outback water hole. You will also find the ruins of the original police barracks.

The remains of a stone building at the Old Police Barracks approximately 2km north of Boulia on the Old Selwyn Road is connected with tragic history of Boulia's early settlement.  This was where Inspector Eglington was stationed with a company of black police at the time about Christmas 1878, when four men were murdered by local Aborigines at Woonamo Waterhole on Sulieman Creek.  Inspector Eglington along with the black police carried out two punitive raids shooting down many Aborigines.
