Overview

The Boulia Shire Council takes a proactive approach in keeping the community informed and prepared for potential disasters. The Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) and the District Disaster Management Group (DDMG) ensure, as best as possible, community preparedness and recovery.

Preparing for an Emergency

The Boulia Shire is not immune to natural disasters and whilst these types of events are not common we cannot afford to become complacent, therefore Council has, in conjunction with the Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG), prepared a suite of Disaster Management Plans to address the disaster management needs of the Boulia Shire.

Community Recovery

Disasters can have a huge effect on individuals and communities has a whole. Those affected may require a range of support both immediately after and in the medium to long term after a disaster. The Queensland Government has a Disaster support and recovery website available which contains a range of information on support services and financial help available. You can also visit the Queensland Reconstruction Authority (QRA) website to learn about disaster funding activations

Current Disaster Support Information

  • QRIDA Connect Sessions available for Disaster assistance: Exceptional Disaster Assistance Recovery Grants are available to assist directly impacted primary producers, small businesses and non-profit organisations with the costs of clean-up and reinstatement as a result of the Western Queensland Trough and Associated Rainfall and Flooding event. Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority (QRIDA) are available for Connect Sessions to help you with the application process. For full details, view the Connect Session flyer.

  • Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA) - assistance available for Boulia Shire following the February/March 2026 event: Read the Media Release for full details.

  • Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payments: The Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment (AGDRP) is available for people in declared areas in state/territory. AGDRP is a lump sum payment to help if you’ve been significantly affected by a natural disaster event. You can find more information and a full list of eligible areas on the Services Australia website: servicesaustralia.gov.au/disastersupport
