Projects in Progess

Water quality and security

The Boulia shire is a growing community with a number of developments steadily progressing. To support this growth, a crucial factor high on Council’s priority list is the ongoing availability of reliable, safe and secure drinking water sources and supply.

Urandangi South Road Betterment Application

This project is Council’s first betterment project on a road pavement. This work (betterment) is about putting greater resilience into our road network and minimising the effect of future flood events.

Donohue Highway - Bitumen Sealing

The Donohue Highway (the Outback Way 'Australia's Longest Shortcut') is being sealed at a progressively increasing rate thanks to continued funding from Federal, State and our Local Government.

Burke River Bridge Safety Upgrades

Council has been able to carry out safety upgrades to the bridge entries at the Burke River.

Road improvements near Waverly Creek

Road Works Teams are nearing the final stages of fully completing a new overtaking opportunity on the Diamantina Development Road near Waverley Creek and works on the Waverley Creek Bridge Approaches are due to commence end of January 2025.

Wills Street Crossing

Works on Wills Street are now 95% completed with 14mm aggerate
scheduled for the new year. This project is funded by Local Recovery and Resilience Grant (QRA).
