Dog Registration Facts - Frequently Asked Questions
  • Why do I have to register my dog?
    Because it is a legal requirement under the Animal Management Act 2008.
  • How much is it to register my dog?
    Cost of registration is dependent on if your dog is desexed, and the period of registration you wish to pay for (half year, entire year or Lifetime Registration). Please see our Fees and Charges page for costs. 
  • What are the benefits of registering my dog?
    If your dog finds itself lost - there is more of a chance of getting it home. Keep up to date with viruses throughout the dog community. Registration fees go towards the safety and wellbeing of said dog.
  • What will happen if I don't register my dog?
    Failing to register your dog will incur a fine of 2 Local Law penalty units, the dollar value of which is set by the Department of Justice & Attorney General. Please see our Fees and Charges page for the current unit value that has been issued. 
  • Where can I register my dog?
    Boulia Shire Council office, Monday - Friday between 8:30am and 5pm.
Dogs must be on a leash

In accordance with the Animal Management (Cats & Dogs) Act 2008, is an offence to NOT have your dog on a leash or lead when walking your dog.

You MUST at all times have EFFECTIVE CONTROL of your dog when walking him/her.

Failure to do so could result in penalty unit fines being issued.
