MEDIA STATEMENT FROM THE OFFICE OF THE MAYOR – BOULIA SHIRE COUNCIL
Boulia Shire Mayor, Rick Britton, has welcomed new funding that will allow Council to continue the next stages of its residential land development, supporting long-term regional growth and sustainability.
“Council is extremely grateful to receive this funding to continue with the development of Boulia’s residential development, specifically stages 2 and 3,” said Mayor Britton. “Stage 1 has seen the creation of nine blocks, with several residences already under consideration. The next stages will deliver up to an additional 30 lots, providing vital support for both industry and community housing needs into the future.”
Mayor Britton said the investment arrives at a crucial time, as Boulia experiences transformative infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing the liveability and economic potential of the region.
“It is an exciting time for Boulia Shire. We’re not just needing to build homes – we’re building the foundations for long-term opportunity,” he said. “With projects such as the continued sealing of the Outback Way/Donohue Highway, development of the Community Hub, the development of our Industrial Estate, and this much needed residential estate, Boulia is well positioned to attract and support industry, tourism and growing our population.”
Mayor Britton also highlighted the far-reaching benefits of improved connectivity, particularly for Queensland’s livestock and tourism sectors.
“Improvements in our road networks will deliver a significant boost to the Queensland economy – from increasing the efficiency of livestock transport to opening up new tourism routes that invite visitors to explore our magnificent region and state,” he said.
“These types of projects would simply not be possible without the support of government. Partnerships such as this provide opportunities that our remote communities could not achieve alone. This funding helps create a future for Boulia that is both vibrant and sustainable.”
