Dog Registration Renewal Time

All dogs residing within the town borders are required to be registered with Boulia Shire Council. It is now dog registration renewal time for the financial year 2026-2027. Any owners with current dog registrations, will receive an auto renewal notice.

Registration fees:

Lifetime Registration - $52.00
This is for the lifetime of the individual dog and the animal must be desexed and microchipped – proof must be supplied to Council at the time of registration.

Annual Registration (Desexed Dog) - $21.00
For the financial year (July to June) and proof of desexing and microchipping must be provided at time of registration.
2nd Desexed dog - $26.00

Annual Registration (Entire Dog) - $63.00
For entire animals for the financial year (July to June).
2nd Entire dog - $73.00

  • Photos of dog/s are required to be supplied with registration paperwork.
  • Tags supplied by Council must be placed on the dog’s collar. Replacement tags can be purchased from the Council office, if required - $7.00
  • Application Fee Permit for keeping more than 2 dogs – for the lifetime of the 3rd dog – only available after inspection and Council approval - $99.00
  • Release of unregistered dog from the pound (not incl. registration) - $259.00. Prior to the animal’s release, registration fees will also need to be paid, and sustenance charges may also apply.

It is the Owners Obligation to make sure that their dog/s are registered under the Animal Management (Cats & Dogs) Act 2008 Section 44(2) and 44(3). Failing to comply will result in you receiving an infringement notice per dog.

Cats are not required to be registered, however no more than 2 cats per property are to be kept.

REMINDERS FOR DOMESTIC ANIMAL OWNERS

As per the Boulia Shire Council Local Laws, the Animal Management (Cats & Dogs) Act 2008 and the Animal Care and Protection Act 2001 Queensland, the following list outlines some owner obligations and failing to comply with these may result in you receiving an Infringement Notice. For full details please see the above mentioned legislation.

As the owner of a dog, you must comply with the following: -

  • Yards/Enclosures must be suitable to prevent animal from escaping.
  • Dogs must be on a leash whilst in public.
  • Owners are required to clean up after animals’ toileting in a public place.
  • Minimum standard of keeping animals must be met (water, shelter & food).
  • Animals must not be mistreated.
  • Dogs are to be restrained in vehicles, any part of the dog other than its head cannot be protruding from the vehicle.
  • Dogs are to be restrained appropriately whilst being transported on the tray of Utes/Trucks.
  • Female dogs in heat are not permitted in public places.
