Water quality and security

New bore site

The Boulia shire is a growing community with a number of developments steadily progressing. To support this growth, a crucial factor high on Council’s priority list is the ongoing availability of reliable, safe and secure drinking water sources and supply. Council has begun the process of exploring options such as a new Water Treatment Plant or extracting water from the Great Artesian Basin, however these require further in-depth investigation to ensure the right long-term solution is able to be selected for the community. The cost of these comprehensive studies are above Council’s current budget capabilities therefore, we are working towards trying to obtain grant funding to help planning works continue. In the interim, a new town water supply bore has been drilled within the town water supply compound. It is approximately 80m in depth. Council has been going through the process of monitoring and testing the bore’s water quality for the required minimum testing period following which Council will start seeking approval for this to be used as part of the town water supply.
